A complete contract-signing workflow
Typed and drawn signatures, preserved document snapshots, signed attachments and safeguards against duplicate completion.
The context
An equipment-hire application needed a signing flow connected to its bookings and generated hire contracts. Capturing a signature was one part of a larger document and state-management workflow.
What I worked on
- Implemented the signing service and interface for typed or drawn signatures.
- Preserved the presented document and stored SHA-256 hashes alongside signing records.
- Generated signed-document attachments and recorded completion in the booking history.
- Added transactional checks and database constraints against duplicate completion, with supporting regression tests.
Lessons learned
The document presented to a signer and the resulting signed record need a clear relationship. Snapshotting the document and controlling the transition to a completed state made that relationship explicit.
